Behavior Report in the Trash

In 1st Grade, School on February 3, 2010 at 2:54 am

Yesterday I found a slip of paper in Audrey’s backpack that read: “Please sign last weeks behavior report, or Audrey will have to miss recess.” Or something close to that. I thought this was odd because I hadn’t seen a behavior report in weeks. In case you don’t know what that is, it is a piece of paper your child marks daily to note if they have been good or bad, and at the end of the week a parent signs it, and the child returns it to school. If the child has had a bad day, there is a note written on that day explaining what happened. I thought that perhaps since the year is winding down, that things were hectic, and they just weren’t doing them anymore.

I emailed Audrey’s teacher to let her know that I haven’t gotten a behavior report in a few weeks, and that maybe Audrey shoved them in her desk or cubby, because that is something she does with a lot of her papers. This is the response I got from the teacher:

“We looked in Audrey’s mailbox and desk. No notes in either place, so they are disappearing somewhere between here and home.  Last week she had a reminder for excessive talking, and not working, and the week before that she had a reminder for putting her feet on the desk.  All the kids get a behavior note for the week sent home every Friday.  No reminders yesterday!
Thank you”

I spoke with Audrey, and she admitted that if there is a “bad” paper in her backpack that she throws them away… So that’s obviously where the reports are going! Audrey had to stay in from recess, and she didn’t get her bedtime story last night that she was really looking forward to. She now promises to not throw notes to mom and dad in the trash. Let’s hope she sticks with it. Thank goodness for email!
